Grants Manager


The Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) is dedicated to improving the lives and protecting the rights of women, children, and youth displaced by conflict, climate change, and crisis worldwide. WRC has been at the forefront of efforts to reach vulnerable populations for over 30 years, from helping craft the UN High Commission for Refugees’ first policy on protection of refugee women to leading the Welcome with Dignity Campaign to defend the rights of asylum seekers coming to the US. WRC conducts research on the challenges faced by refugees; identifies and implements innovative solutions with field partners; and advocates for policy change to transform humanitarian practice. Our expert team focuses on migrant rights and justice; sexual and gender-based violence; access to high-quality reproductive health care; refugee economic empowerment; and gender equality and social inclusion for persons with disabilities and LBGTQI+ populations. In 2022, WRC is embarking on a new five-year strategic plan and is seeking an assistant director to support institutional partnerships that will help accomplish our vision for a better world for refugees.


The grants manager will play a key role in supporting WRC’s mission, by pursuing new grant opportunities, managing current grants, and supporting the institutional development team’s overall operations. Under the supervision of the director of institutional giving, the grants manager will provide essential support for our institutional fundraising portfolio (foundations, governments, and multilateral entities) including undertaking prospect research; tracking RFPs; assisting with donor cultivation; supporting proposal development; grant reporting; and processing grant agreements, modifications and other donor required documentation. The grants manager will also be responsible for tracking and updating data in WRC’s fundraising systems, as part of efforts to assess organizational performance and inform decision-making.


  • Support development of concept notes and proposals, including compiling data, integrating technical and financial information into donor templates, and copy editing, in partnership with program and finance colleagues.
  • Conduct research on grant opportunities and donors (foundation, government, multilateral), including identifying and researching new sources of support and preparing donor and prospect briefings.
  • Manage the grant reporting process for assigned donors, including working with program and finance staff to ensure submission of high quality and timely reports that meet donor requirements.
  • Develop and support donor engagement strategies, including updates, meetings, and virtual events.
  • Prepare grant summary documents for program staff and provide coordination of grant kickoff meetings with staff and NGO partners.
  • Work with program, finance, and legal staff on grant agreements, amendments, and budget modifications for donors and NGO partners.


  • Bachelors’ degree required, masters’ degree preferred.
  • 3+ years work experience supporting and managing grants with development or humanitarian assistance organizations.
  • Familiarity and experience with institutional donors, preferably including government funders.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to write, edit, and organize thoughts in a clear, concise, and well-organized manner.
  • Flexible, positive attitude, with proven ability to work productively with diverse teams and independently.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, with proven ability to prioritize projects and follow through with attention to detail and high-level accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office and remote platforms (e.g., Zoom).
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge highly desirable.

Reports to: Director of Institutional Giving, Development, Women’s Refugee Commission

Position: Regular, full-time

Salary: Salary range: $56,305 – $89,844, commensurate with experience

Location: New York, NY (temporarily remote due to COVID)
