A safe work environment for many women provides a safe environment for their children. After acquiring a sewing machine on loan, Marta, a Colombian refugee in Ecuador, began a small business sewing curtains from the safety of her home. While she works, her two daughters play nearby.

In northern Uganda, an Acholi mother cuts sugar cane in the fields at the Kinyara Sugar Works near Masindi. This area hosted huge numbers of displaced Acholi during the Lord's Resistance Army conflict, and many, such as this woman, chose to remain here after the war ended.

In Timor-Leste, the organization Plan continues to support women who have been internally displaced after they complete the vocational training program and gain employment in the capital, Dili. The income they earn is used to support their families and goes towards buying school supplies.
