    The Women’s Refugee Commission works to improve the lives and defend the rights of refugee and internally displaced women, children and adolescents. As an advocacy organization, the Women’s Refugee Commission is dedicated to bringing about systemic changes that lead to greater respect for the rights of uprooted women, children and adolescents. The organization strives to effect policy change with broad, worldwide impact.

    The Development Department: consists of three staff engaged in all aspects of fundraising for the Women's Refugee Commission. Working closely with program staff, senior leadership and volunteers we seek resources from a range of different sources, such as foundations, U.S. state governments, individuals, corporations through direct mail, special events, major gifts, and grants.

    The intern will support the Development Department in all aspects of activities with special focus on the Raiser’s Edge database. The intern will also conduct prospect research and special events. This is a great opportunity for an energetic individual to learn about fundraising on a global scale for an advocacy organization.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with updating and maintaining the database (Raiser's Edge), individual records and mailing lists.
    • Support all aspects of Annual Voices of Courage Awards Luncheon on May 3 and cultivating events preceding the lunch.
    • Prospect research for potential government, overhauling foundation corporate and individual donors.
    • Support the Department's efforts by performing a range of administrative tasks, including filing and photocopying.

    Requirements:

    • Strong research, writing and communication skills.
    • Strong interest on issues related to women, children and youth refugees and fundraising.
    • Ability to work both in a team and independently.
    • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office programs, including Word and Excel.
    • Ability to learn new database systems quickly.
    • Attention to detail, patience, ability to juggle multiple projects.
