    Watchlist Intern, Capacity Strengthening

    The Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict is an NGO network that monitors and reports on violations against the security and rights of children and adolescents in specific situations of armed conflict. Watchlist uses this information to urge action by the UN Security Council, other UN agencies and appropriate governments. Watchlist also provides capacity strengthening support to local NGO partners in areas of conflict to build sustainable, grass roots monitoring, reporting and advocacy networks related to violations against children in armed conflicts (CAC). The Watchlist is housed at the offices of the Women’s Refugee Commission, a member of Watchlist’s Steering Committee and the International Rescue Committee.

    The intern will support Watchlist in its capacity strengthening partnerships with local organizations in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Colombia, along the Thai/Burma border and Nepal. The intern will also support the development of Watchlist’s capacity strengthening project infrastructure, particularly related to the Capacity Strengthening Operating Manual, projects tracking tool and overall correspondence and reporting on project activities.


    • Provide support on the design, development and implementation of the Watchlist local capacity strengthening projects in Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Colombia, Thailand and other countries as relevant.
    • Provide support on the development of the Watchlist Capacity Strengthening Operating Manual.
    • Provide support on the development and distribution of the regular news update to the field.
    • Provide support on updating Watchlist Capacity Strengthening Tracking Tools and project summaries.
    • Assist with communication with local NGO partners in Nepal, DRC, Colombia and elsewhere.
    • Assist and take minutes of Watchlist weekly meetings
    • Represent Watchlist at meetings related to children and armed conflict hosted by UNICEF, NGOs and other relevant agencies as needed.
    • Provide support with research and advocacy initiatives as needed.
    • Translate relevant policy documents and reports to/from French and/or Spanish as needed.
    • Assist with filing and other administrative tasks when necessary.


    • Graduate student in international relations, politics, international development or relevant field.
    • Strong research, writing, analytical and communication skills.
    • Strong interest in issues related to children in armed conflict and human rights advocacy.
    • Experience with international human rights mechanisms and policies.
    • Fluency in French or Spanish preferred.
    • Ability to work both in a team as well as independently.
    • Excellent knowledge of MS Word/ Excel.
