The Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) works within the humanitarian sector to advance gender equality and rights-based policies for displaced women, children, youth, and other marginalized people. In all our work, we strive to create a more equitable world where the dignity, equity, and self-determination of every person is respected.

We stand alongside crisis-affected people to remove barriers and uphold fundamental rights. We elevate the experience, expertise, and recommendations of women, girls, youth, and other marginalized people and listen carefully to their needs, goals, and solutions.

We recognize that individuals in some communities, including in the humanitarian sector, have historically experienced barriers to participation, influence, and leadership. Often, the legacy of discriminatory structures and norms leads to the very crises we seek to address. We are dedicated to building a more inclusive and equitable world where every person has agency, can access opportunities and resources, and engages meaningfully as an equal partner. We rely on partnerships based on equality with local organizations and affected populations and we support underrepresented populations to participate actively in decisions that affect them.

We recognize that meaningful change takes time and requires consistent attention and collaborative action. In our external and internal practices, we strive to uphold principles of fairness and respect, to embrace inclusive and equitable practices, to value diversity, and to lift up the contributions of people of all backgrounds.

We know that we must live our diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) values in our workplace and in the humanitarian community for us to advance these principles ethically, practically, and consistently in all we do.
