Observations and Recommendations Following April 2023 US-Mexico Border Monitoring Visit to Arizona, Southeast California, and Northern Mexico
PublishedIn April 2023, just ahead of the end of the Title 42 expulsions policy on May 11, 2023, the Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) Migrant Rights and Justice program visited Arizona, southeast California, and northern Mexico to understand the conditions faced by people trying to seek protection at the US-Mexico border and the shelters and service providers serving them. Based on observations and interviews with a wide range of stakeholders, WRC identified concerns with the current asylum process, risks with the anticipated process beginning on May 11, and recommendations for the Biden administration to ensure protections of people seeking asylum.
