Privacy Policy

The Women’s Refugee Commission (“WRC,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) values your private information and understands the need for security and trust surrounding such information. This privacy policy (“Policy”) applies to information we collect when you access the WRC website located at https://www.womensrefugeecommission.org/ and other websites or online services that link to this Policy and are operated by WRC (collectively, the “Sites”).

On our website, we generally do not require users to provide personally identifiable information in order to access publicly available content. However, we may automatically collect certain technical and device-related information through server logs, security systems, cookies, and similar technologies. We also collect personal information voluntarily provided by users, such as when signing up for email updates, making donations, applying for employment, or contacting us directly. In all cases, we collect and process personal information in accordance with this Policy and applicable law.

We may collect the following kinds of information when you use the Sites:

Information you provide directly to us. For certain activities, such as when you sign up for our email updates, make a donation, or contact us directly, we may collect some or all of the following types of information:

• Contact information, including your full name, email address, phone number, and mailing address;
• If you choose to make a donation, your payment information and the name of your employer (if you choose to look up your employer for donation matching purposes);
• If you choose to submit application materials responsive to a WRC job listing, your resume and other information relating to potential employment; and
• Any other information you choose to provide to us.

We may combine such information with information we may already have about you.

Information we collect automatically. We may collect certain information automatically when you use our Sites, including your Internet protocol (IP) address, browser type, operating system, device information, pages viewed, referring URLs, and other standard server log information. We use cookies and similar technologies for security, functionality, analytics, and performance purposes.

Where required by applicable law, non-essential cookies and similar technologies are activated only after you provide consent through our cookie consent management platform. You may manage or withdraw your consent preferences at any time through the  cookie settings link available on our Sites. Certain strictly necessary technologies may remain active to ensure the functionality, security, and operation of the Sites.

We may also receive information about you from other sources, including through third-party services and organizations. For example, if you access third-party services, such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, or YouTube, from the Sites or to share  information about your experience on the Sites with others, we may collect information from these third-party services.

We generally use the information we collect online to:

• Provide and improve the Sites;
• Contact you, including for fundraising purposes;
• Send you promotional materials from us;
• Analyze the use of the Sites and user data, including to understand and improve the Sites;
• If you choose to submit application materials for a WRC job listing, evaluate your application for a position of employment with WRC;
• Protect the security and integrity of the Sites, protect our legal rights, and detect, prevent, and respond to potentially prohibited or illegal activities; and
• For any other purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect your information or pursuant to your consent.

We are committed to maintaining your trust, and we want you to understand when and with whom we may share the information we collect.

Service providers. We may share your information with third-party vendors and service providers that perform services on our behalf, including billing, payment processing, customer service, email deployment, hosting, security monitoring, analytics, performance monitoring, and data processing. Where required by applicable law, analytics, advertising, and other non-essential technologies are subject to user consent preferences managed through our cookie consent platform.

Other non-profit organizations. To the extent consistent with applicable law, we may share your information with other non-profit organizations that we believe have similar goals or principles, including by exchanging email lists with these other organizations.

Business transfers. We may share your information in connection with a substantial corporate transaction, such as the sale of a website, a merger, consolidation, asset sale, or in the unlikely event of bankruptcy.

Legal purposes. We may disclose information to respond to subpoenas, court orders, legal process, law enforcement requests, legal claims, or government inquiries, and to protect and defend the rights, interests, health, safety, and security of WRC, our affiliates, users, or the public.

With your consent or at your direction. We may share information for any other purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect the information or pursuant to your consent or direction.

If you access third-party services, such as Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, or YouTube, from the Sites or to share information about your experience on the Sites with others, these third-party services may be able to collect information about you,  including information about your activity on the Sites, and they may notify your connections on the third-party services about your use of the Sites, in accordance with their own privacy policies.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to help protect information from loss, theft, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. These measures may include encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls, security monitoring tools, software updates, and restricted administrative access. However, you should understand that no data storage system or transmission of data over the Internet or any other public network can be guaranteed to be 100 percent secure.  Please note that information collected by third parties may not have the same security protections as information you submit to us, and we are not responsible for protecting the security of such information.

You may opt out of our emails newsletters or commercial emails by clicking “unsubscribe” at the bottom of each email and following the subsequent instructions. You may also manage your cookie preferences through the cookie consent banner and preferences center available on our Sites. Through these tools, you may accept or reject certain categories of non-essential cookies and similar technologies. You may additionally adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies; however, doing so may affect the  functionality of portions of the Sites.

Please note that certain strictly necessary cookies and technologies may remain active because they are required for the operation, security, and core functionality of the Sites. Residents of certain jurisdictions, including California, may have rights regarding their personal information under applicable privacy laws, including the right to request information regarding the categories of personal information disclosed to third parties and the right to opt out of certain sharing activities. We do not sell personal information for monetary compensation.

Some of the Sites may contain links to content maintained by third parties that we do not control. We allow third parties, including business partners and service providers, to collect information about your online activities through cookies, pixels, local storage, and other technologies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties, and the information practices of these third parties are not covered by this Policy. Do-Not-Track Signals and Similar Mechanisms. Some web browsers transmit “do-not-track” signals to websites. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted or whether users even are aware of them. Users may manage cookie and tracking preferences through our consent management platform. Because browser-based “Do Not Track” signals are not yet standardized, our Sites may not respond uniformly to all such signals.

Cookies are small bits of information that are stored by your computer’s web browser. Pixel tags are very small images or small pieces of data embedded in images, also known as “web beacons” or “clear GIFs,” that can recognize cookies, the time and date a page is viewed, a description of the page where the pixel tag is placed, and similar information from your computer or device. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under the age of 13 without parental consent, unless permitted by law. If we learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it in accordance with applicable law.

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we update the Policy, we will revise the “Effective Date” date above and post the new Privacy Policy. We recommend that you review the Privacy Policy each time you visit the Sites to stay informed of our privacy practices.
