Letter to the Secretary-General: No UNFPA-UN Women Merger

This letter to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, opposes the proposed merger of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and UN Women. It encourages the Secretary-General to reconsider the proposal, given that there is no clear evidence that the plan will have positive outcomes for the gender equality architecture of the UN.

WRC has joined 1,400+ feminist civil society groups, led by the Feminist Cross Coalition, to oppose the merger and call for a process that puts women, girls, and marginalized communities at the center of reform efforts.
