WRC’s Comment on Proposed Rulemaking on Security Bars and Processing for Asylum Applicants

Published | Updated

The Women’s Refugee Commission has submitted multiple comments in opposition of the joint notice of proposed rulemaking issued by the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice on July 9, 2020, entitled “Security Bars and Processing.”

WRC’s first comment was submitted on August 10, 2020 and the second comment on the final rule was submitted on April 21, 2021. This rule would impose unprecedented new barriers to applicants seeking asylum, withholding of removal, or protection under the Convention Against Torture in the United States based on their fear of persecution in their home country.
