Legal Protection

All refugees have the right to seek asylum through a fair and accessible legal system, to family unity and to protection from violence and exploitation. Around the world, governments violate the rights of refugees when they block access to their borders, detain asylum seekers, deport those with legitimate claims, separate families and fail to protect them from violence and exploitation.

When governments treat asylum seekers with respect, recognize their rights and provide them due process rather than treating refugees as a problem, refugees can rebuild their lives and become part of the community.
