Introducing Xanthe Scharff, WRC President and CEO

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Xanthe Scharff will serve as WRC’s new President and CEO, starting today.

A founder, news leader, fundraiser, and women’s rights advocate, Xanthe brings over two decades of experience working at the intersection of humanitarian action, gender equity, philanthropy, and storytelling. Throughout her career, she has built organizations, mobilized resources, elevated overlooked voices, and advanced solutions for women and girls affected by conflict, displacement, and inequality.

Xanthe’s appointment comes at a pivotal moment for the humanitarian sector. With global displacement at record levels and humanitarian systems facing unprecedented funding cuts and disruption, WRC is positioning itself to meet emerging challenges while continuing our mission to protect and center the voices, priorities, and leadership of displaced women and girls.

As President and CEO, Xanthe will lead our global team, strategic planning, advocacy efforts, and partnerships as we continue working toward a world where displaced women, children, and youth can live with safety, dignity, and opportunity.

“Humanitarian aid is undergoing profound disruption. Yet throughout history, it has been refugee women themselves who have found ways to adapt, innovate, and rebuild amid uncertainty. They have created businesses, educated children, organized communities, and developed solutions long before institutions caught up.” – Dr. Xanthe Scharff, WRC President and CEO
