  • Gender-based Violence & Safe Energy

Displaced women and girls are routinely raped or beaten when they leave camps to collect firewood for cooking. The humanitarian community has not just failed to address this problem, it contributes by providing food that must be cooked to be eaten.

In responding to the protection concerns, the need for fuel and energy can be an opportunity to build livelihoods, allowing women control over their own lives.

After more than a decade of our advocacy, fuel and energy has been recognized by the international community as a human right, imperative for living day-to-day.
