From Frontlines to Frameworks: How Women-Led Organizations, Mutual Aid Groups, and Emergency Response Rooms Protect Women and Girls in Sudan

Published

This policy brief is the first in a new WRC series called Feminist Solutions in Displacement. Each policy brief in the series is authored by a WRC partner with lived experience of displacement.

“From Frontlines to Frameworks: How Women-Led Organizations, Mutual Aid Groups, and Emergency Response Rooms Protect Women and Girls in Sudan” is authored by Hanin Ahmed, founder of Old Omdurman Emergency Response Room in Sudan. It focuses on the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, in which 14 million people have been displaced and women and girls face targeted violence. Ahmed draws on interviews with Emergency Response Rooms and Women-Led Organizations, as well as her own experiences, to outline how these mutual aid groups have provided the necessary services and protection that formal humanitarian systems have failed to.
