The Women's Refugee Commission is saddened to learn of the death of Patsy Preston on October 28, 2011. Ms. Preston was on the board of the Women's Refugee Commission from 2000 to 2006, and was a Commissioner at the time of her death.
She was former president of the World Bank’s Volunteer Services. She was passionate about education for girls, including refugee girls. She instituted a tutoring program for middle school Hispanic and black girls in New York City, and was a member of the board of directors of the Preston Fund for Girls’ Education, which is now merged with the Global Fund for Women.
Ms. Preston was the granddaughter of the founder of the Pulitzer Prize. She created the Patsy Pulitzer Preston Scholarship Fund for Innovative Documentary Journalism at Columbia Journalism School's Documentary Project.
