Carol Hymowitz is a Senior Writer at Bloomberg News. She reports and writes enterprise and investigative stories about longevity and the retirement savings crisis, gender and racial inequality and other workplace and business issues for Bloomberg.com, the Bloomberg terminal and Bloomberg Businessweek magazine. Before joining Bloomberg in 2010, she launched and was editorial director of ForbesWoman magazine and website. Previously she was a senior editor and a columnist at The Wall Street Journal, which she joined as a reporter in 1979.

Carol is known for popularizing the term "the glass ceiling" in a 1985 Journal story, and for the weekly "In the Lead" management column she wrote from 2000 to 2008. In 2013, she won a Best in Business award for feature writing from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, and in 2014 a Front Page Award from the New York Newswomen's Club. She is coauthor of “A History of Women in America (Bantam Books) and a contributor to "Getting Older: How We're Coping with the Gray Areas of Aging," a Bloomberg eBook, published by Wiley.

She received a master’s degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and a bachelor's from Brandeis University. She is a mentor at Women in America, and a member of the Economics Club of N.Y. and the Women's Forum of N.Y. She previously served on the boards of the Feminist Press and the child advocacy group CASA, Pittsburgh chapter.
